13 Acres on a working alpaca farm

Bottega is not only extremely unique architecturally, but also in its location and vision to utilize the space surrounding the property. Located on 13 acres of farm land, Bottega takes great pride in providing an authentic taste of agritourism and agritainment. Alpacas, fruit trees, and a peaceful environment with walking trails surrounded by tall trees, beautiful plants, and a variety of flowers are some of the features guests can expect to experience on the property.

Each year, alpaca fibre is gathered from the alpacas, packaged, sent away to be spun, then sold in order to be turned into clothing and blankets.

  • Alpaca fleece is naturally water-repellent and difficult to ignite
  • Alpaca fibre is similar to sheep’s wool but is warmer, not prickly, and is hypoallergenic
  • These animals are generally very friendly – if you come at the right time you’ll be able to pet and feed them with supervision from staff

In 2009, Bottega started an off-site 5 acre farm project with Little Church Organics which has harvested local produce while sustaining organic agricultural practices. Located a short distance down the road from Bottega, guests are welcome to visit this historical property which houses the gravesite of Kelowna’s founding missionary Father Pandosy.

Food grown on the farm has been made available to guests visiting Bottega over the years. Complete with a cherry orchard, there are also over 40 community garden plots which are offered to the public to grow food in a manner that contributes, maintains and improves a healthy environment.

Little Church Organics is also home to a flower farm which utilizes the greenhouses to create floral arrangements from what is grown. The local floral farm and design studio Lavender and Lace uses locally grown, seasonal, and organic products in their creations including fresh herbs, branches from flowering shrubs, clematis, peonies and garden roses – all grown on-site. Some of these handmade bouquets and flower arrangements can be seen around the Bottega property and at weddings where they are displayed, held, and worn by new brides.

In October 2014, over 1000 tulip bulbs were planted by a group of volunteers in a newly cleared area of the farm.

Bottega is one of a small number of event and retreat venues that offer complete privacy and exclusive use of the entire facility to make your time together something of your own creation.

As the largest city located on stunning Okanagan Lake, Kelowna is a recreational lakeside paradise with miles of beautiful parkland and several sandy beaches that provide wonderful opportunities for swimming, boating, water-skiing, windsurfing and fishing.
